Sexual Dysfunction Treatment

Treatments for Men and Women

Male Sexual Dysfunction

Male sexual dysfunction has garnered great attention since the discovery of Viagra and has brought sexual health out into the open. Male sexual dysfunction encompasses problems with libido or desire, problems obtaining or maintaining erections, and problems with ejaculating too soon or too late or not at all.

Male Sexual Dysfunction

Different therapies are required based on the problems experienced. Contrary to popular belief Viagra does not fix all problems with male sexual dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction treatment is based on a history and physical exam as well as indicated lab work.

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

BHRT involves balancing testosterone, DHEA and thyroid hormones which can have an overall improvement of male sexual functioning but has the greatest effect on erectile function and libido. Replacement also may have other beneficial effects on overall health.

Although oxytocin is most frequently associated with women and inducing labor, it may be useful in males to aid in orgasmic function and improve interpersonal relationships which affect intimacy. Oxytocin is produced at very high levels at the time of orgasm and is responsible for the temporary euphoria after orgasm. It appears that the surge in Oxytocin may be benefited by supplementation.

Priapus Shot or P Shot®

priapus shot

The Priapus or P Shot involves drawing a tube of your blood and putting it into a centrifuge to separate the plasma or liquid part of the blood from the red blood cells. This produces what is known as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is then activated with a small amount of calcium and then injected into the penis after local anesthesia has been applied. Discomfort is minimal and there may be some bruising. A penis vacuum device is recommended twice a day for 10 minutes for 6 weeks after the treatment. PRP recruits all the repair cells in the body and rejuvenation occurs over several weeks after injection. PRP may improve blood flow as well as improve nerve function and quality of erections. 2 treatments 3-4 months apart are recommended as the PRP takes that long to see the full response.

Nonsurgical Rejuvenation for Men

What is the "P" Shot? - David Jayne M.D.

The Priapus Shot® procedure is a quick, usually painless, 20 minute, nonsurgical procedure. The Priapus Shot® procedure begins with numbing the penis and then a simple blood draw. Then, using a proprietary technique, platelet rich plasma is extracted from the blood and then injected into the shaft & into the head of the penis. There is no recovery time and the results are almost immediate in some men. Full results appear in 2-3 months.

Your doctor or nurse will help determine if this procedure could work for you and your family. Men both on and off testosterone replacement, those with diabetes, young, & old can often benefit from the Priapus Shot® procedure. The procedure could lead to lower doses of erectile meds but may not always allow their discontinuation. Smokers may get less results. Size improvements occur less reliably.

Female Sexual Dysfunction

Female Sexual Dysfunction is an all-encompassing term in that female sexual response is a highly intricate response that is dependent on multiple variables. With the advent of Viagra, the medical community has started to focus on sexual dysfunction but the treatments for women are lacking. Improving sexual function for women is vitally important to live a long productive life to the fullest possible extent.

Female Sexual Dysfunction

I believe that the following areas help improve female sexual functioning:

O-Shot®or Orgasm Shot

If you are a woman who suffers from sexual challenges such as urinary incontinence, inability to achieve an orgasm, or low desire,  you know how frustrating these issues can be. Most women are embarrassed or nervous to speak with their physician or gynecologist about such matters, and many doctors don’t have much to say on these important issues.  In fact, up until very recently, there were very few ways to address these female concerns aside from prescribing hormones or suggesting psychotherapy.

What is the "O" Shot? - David Jayne M.D.

Now there is a new treatment called the Orgasm Shot®, or O-Shot®, that not only offers hope for these conditions, but can also be administered during a simple, pretty comfortable in-office procedure.

Benefits experienced with the O-Shot®

  • Resolved urinary incontinence (both urge and stress)
  • Increased natural lubrication
  • Greater arousal from clitoral stimulation
  • Younger, smoother skin of the vulva (lips of the vagina)
  • A tighter introitus (vaginal opening)
  • Stronger orgasm
  • More frequent orgasm
  • Increased sexual desire
  • Increased ability to have a vaginal orgasm
  • Decreased pain for those with dyspareunia (painful intercourse)

Natural or Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement

I recommend restoring youthful hormone levels to help reestablish sexual functioning as the drop in hormone levels with the passage of time leads to problems with energy, libido, vaginal lubrication and orgasmic functioning. Testosterone levels have been the major focus but estradiol, progesterone and DHEA all play a role also so balancing the levels is vital to improving sexual functioning.

Oxytocin is a natural brain hormone that is produced during breast feeding and has been used for years to induce labor in pregnant women. It also is produced at the time of orgasm contributing to the euphoric feeling immediately post orgasm. Oxytocin is thought to be responsible for social bonding and can overcome fears and phobias while providing mood stabilizing effects. Treatment via dissolving sublingual tablet, nasal spray or long acting oral tab may help improve orgasmic function as well as helping libido by enhancing the interpersonal relationship.

Orgasm Shot or O Shot

The Orgasm Shot, or O Shot, involves drawing a vial of blood and using a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. This process produces Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) which is activated with a tiny amount of calcium and then after using local anesthetic is injected back into the same patient at the same visit to rejuvenate the clitoris and upper vagina. This rejuvenates nerves, blood vessels and tissues in the areas which may lead to significant improvement for sexual functioning and may aid with incontinence or leaking of urine problems.
